Project Overview

This project was designed to provide ground floor treatment rooms including MRI scanner suites, CT scanner suites, and plain x-ray, as well as first and second floor offices and respite care, bed wards and isolation suites. Works also included the extension and refurbishment of the existing Chemotherapy Suite, the refurbishment of the ground floor of the Tower Block, and the construction of an underground car park. The new unit links to the existing hospital via underground service tunnels and new link corridors. The new Radiotherapy Unit is a unique cross-border service project which will improve patient travelling times and provide more locally accessible services to patients from Western Trust area and the Republic of Ireland.

We were specified by O’Connell Mahon for this project and worked closely with the design teams from O’Connell Mahon and McLaughlin & Harvey to provide a hardware, automation and hygiene control strategy to suit the needs of the Radiotherapy unit and it’s users. Internally, we provided all architectural hardware and swing door automation for all internal corridor doors with electric locking which integrates into the building’s fire alarm system. We specified, supplied and installed Portalp HDS Clean hermetically sealed doors into the isolation rooms for the radiotherapy unit with integrated electric blinds between double glazed units for privacy and observation. We worked with exterior architects Isherwood & Ellis to supply and install an automated sliding door system for the main entrance as part of the building. Our manufacturing company Elite doors provided a bespoke timber door and screen solution of approximately 620 doorsets over four floors using a combination of fire (FD30 and FD60) and non fire rated doorsets in single, double and leaf and a half variations. Some of the screens were 12 metres in length. The chosen finish was oak for a timeless aesthetic.
