The brief from the design team was to create a high-end, luxurious finish throughout and this followed through to every single detail and component specified on the project. We utilised the KCC grade 316 stainless steel modus range of operating ironmongery in a satin brass finish to offering functionality and durability for building users whilst still achieving a modern and stylish aesthetic.
We worked closely with the design team in Niall McLaughlin Architects to design and provide all internal steel glazed screens and doors offering impressive heights of 3 metres allowing for a massive expanse of glass and light in the building, both fire and non-fire rated with beautifully slim steel frames in a combination of EI30 and EI60 integrity and insulation fire protection.
We worked on the newly developed Acute Mental Health inpatient facility on the Sligo University Hospital Campus which boasts stunning views of the surrounding Sligo landscape. The envelope of the facility includes protruding box windows to allow patients and staff to enjoy the natural landscape throughout the building. The generously proportioned facility with its technologically advanced patient and staff facilities and accommodation centres around two enclosed courtyards, where patients and staff can enjoy privacy and tranquillity.
The Department of Psychiatry is a HSE-run facility in Tallaght University Hospital that provides around-the-clock scheduled and emergency services to a catchment of 262,000 people in Tallaght, Ballyfermot, Clondalkin and Crumlin. The department has a 52-bed inpatient facility as well as several mental health centres located in the community. During upgrade works to the hospital we were subcontracted by Elenfield Construction on this unique project to help develop a seclusion room within the psychiatric unit which is located on the ground floor of the Hospital.
Across the main areas of the hotel we utilised a bespoke bronze ironmongery from our Frank Allart range, adding interest with textured, knurled and leather details on pull handles and levers, depending on the style and aesthetic of each room.
We were tasked with creating two lanes to incorporate one able-bodied lane and one DDA-compliant wheelchair accessible lane. Our solution for this was the full installation and activation of three Gunnebo speedstiles with transparent gates and modern, black and chrome units integrated with RFID access control.
Our solution included a series of high performance Elite timber doorsets in laminate and veneer finishes with a requirement for acoustic performance properties due to the nature of the intended use of the building. Some of the doorsets specified were PAS24 certified for enhanced security. We provided a combination of non fire rated, FD30s and FD60s doorsets for fire and smoke resistance in a variety of orientations including single, double and leaf-and-a-half, with and without vision panels, solid or glazed overpanels or glazed side screens.
On the exterior envelope of the building we provided two TORMAX fully automatic revolving door systems to facilitate both the entry and egress of building users and to ensure energy efficiency and minimal heat loss for the sustainability-conscious building. Adjacent to each revolving door installation we provided Safe Pass automated swing doors with access control on both the interior and exterior of each.
On the exterior of the building the AiPhone audio/video entry system can control both the main entrance door and the carpark barrier system. This allows security at the front desk to manage visitor access to the building while staff can utilise key cards for ease of entry. Internally, due to the nature of the building, there was a requirement to use access control throughout the entire facility. We specified and supplied an RBH online access control system allowing the client to limit or restrict access to certain areas such as cleaning stores to certain staff.
On the ground floor we specified and installed a PAS24 GEZE automatic sliding front entrance system with electric locking. This impressive double height entrance lobby features an external automatic sliding door with access control leading onto an internal revolving door system and adjacent safe pass automatic swing door operated by Dorma ED100 swing door operators, all built into the impressive slim frame façade of the building.
We provided a specialist ‘SafeDoor” to replace the standard doors in the en-suite areas. These doors use short-range magnetism for their fixing points and detach under any weight above 9kg meaning they can eliminate all points of ligature associated with doors and hardware whilst maintaining the privacy and dignity of the patient. We also supplied full anti-ligature ironmongery kits for the doors as well as anti-ligature radiator covers which were bespoke to the varying size of radiators throughout the unit.
We designed a bespoke anti-ligature doorset solution with integrated anti-ligature hardware for all bedroom, ensuite, bathroom, communal and corridor areas in the ward, in addition to designing and providing an anti-ligature compliant access control strategy to facilitate the movement of both staff and residents in each area of the facility
