AMIC – Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Centre, Newtownabbey
- Location: Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland
- Architect: McAdam Design
- Contractor: Henry Brothers
Project Overview
The Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Centre (AMIC) in Newtownabbey has been developed to support the future of advanced manufacturing, engineering research, innovation and industry collaboration in Northern Ireland. Designed as a flagship facility, the building brings together manufacturing, research, education and commercial collaboration within a modern, highly serviced environment.
To support the diverse operational requirements of the facility, the building required integrated door, access, architectural hardware and fire-rated glazing solutions capable of delivering high levels of security, accessibility, durability and long-term performance.
KCC Group was appointed to provide a coordinated package of specialist door, access and glazing solutions, working closely with the project team to ensure every element integrated seamlessly with the wider building design while supporting the operational requirements of this technically demanding environment.
Project Requirements
As a major innovation and research facility, AMIC required a coordinated approach to door, access and glazing systems across a wide variety of spaces, each with different operational demands.
The project required:
- Integrated door, access and glazing solutions capable of supporting manufacturing areas, research laboratories, teaching facilities, office accommodation and visitor spaces.
- A combination of architectural ironmongery, electronic locking, automated access, fire-rated glazing and speedlane technology that worked together as a single coordinated package.
- Systems designed to meet stringent requirements for safety, security, accessibility, compliance and long-term operational performance while integrating with the architectural vision for the building.
Careful scheduling, technical coordination and product integration were essential to ensure every opening functioned correctly and consistently throughout the facility.

Project Solution
Through detailed planning, scheduling and collaboration with the project team, KCC Group delivered a fully integrated package that ensured every system worked together as part of the complete building solution.
