WELL Building Standard Version 2 (WELL v2) is a globally recognized performance-based framework for measuring, certifying, and monitoring features of the built environment that impact human health and well-being. Developed by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI), WELL v2 expands on the original WELL standard and is designed to be more flexible, inclusive, and applicable to a wide range of building types and organizations.

WELL v2 is structured around ten core concepts that affect human health in buildings, namely Air, Water, Nourishment, Light, Movement, Thermal Comfort, Sound, Materials, Mind, Community, Points-Based System: Projects earn points by achieving specific features within each concept. Certification is awarded at four levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. WELL v2 allows customization based on project goals, type, and location, making it more adaptable than the original WELL standard.

WELL v2 is relevant to glazed partitioning in several ways:

  • Light: Glazed partitions support the Light concept by promoting natural light penetration deeper into the workspace, enhancing visual comfort and circadian health.
  • Sound: Acoustic performance is a key consideration in WELL. High-quality glazed partitions can help control sound transmission, contributing to acoustic privacy and noise reduction, which supports the Sound concept.
  • Air and Materials: WELL v2 encourages the use of low-emitting materials. Choosing partition systems that meet VOC (volatile organic compound) emissions standards supports the Air and Materials concepts.
  • Mind & Community: Visually open environments foster a sense of transparency and connection, supporting psychological well-being and collaboration – relevant to both Mind and Community concepts.

Glazed partitioning systems can contribute to multiple WELL v2 concepts. They allow natural light to reach more areas, supporting the Light concept and circadian health. When designed with acoustic performance in mind, they help reduce noise and improve Sound comfort. Additionally, using certified low-emitting materials aligns with the Air and Materials concepts. Their transparency can also enhance psychological well-being and a sense of community within the workplace.
