UCD Fulcrum Building

Fire-rated glazing solution for a prestigious Irish University

  • Sector Education
  • Location: Dublin, Ireland
  • Architect: Reddy Architecture
  • Contractor: JJ Rhatigan

Project Overview

The UCD Fulcrum building is a two-storey student centre and part of the UCD Masterplan project, featuring a 290-seat auditorium, restaurant, multiple retail units, a gym, a health & well-being facility, multiple meeting rooms, and office accommodation. We worked closely with the design team in Reddy Architecture and JJ Rhatigan building contractors to fulfill their fire-rated glazing requirements, supplying and installing a series of internal fire-rated glazed screens and doors around the main double-height auditorium area, which is the focal point of all the necessary amenities for students in the building. We elected to use a Schueco Jansen steel-glazed system offering slim profiles with maximum glazed panels with all appropriate ironmongery incorporated. The glazed screens and doors are a combination of EI30 up to EI90 fire protection and are designed to allow light to flow through the impressive space whilst also providing essential insulation and integrity protection and a visible escape route for building occupants in the event of a fire emergency.
