Commercial Office Block, Belfast

This large commercial project in Belfast, a £30m office development, was designed to house 1,300 staff in a modern, six-storey building on the Laganbank Road, close to Central Station in the city centre and is one of  the US company’s three offices across Northern Ireland, situated in Belfast, Londonderry and Strabane.

The office building was designed by architects WDR & RT Taggart in association with Newry construction company O’Hare & McGovern. The 165,000sqft six-storey office building with roof plant area sits on a site which extends to approximately 1.8 acres to the rear of the former Maysfield Leisure Centre. WDR & RT Taggart wanted to create sociable working spaces, a restaurant, an outdoor terrace and software development labs in this convenient city-centre location.

Based on our experience and prior track record on similar high-end projects, we were specified and subcontracted by the architects to work on this prestigious project. The design brief specified high-quality, high-performance timber doorsets and contemporary stainless steel architectural ironmongery throughout, for which we elected to use our KCC Premier range and provided an integrated solution for our clients.

We were also able to manage both the internal and external door automation for this project. Externally, we supplied and installed a fully automated GEZE EMDF 325 TSA 160 4-wing revolving door to create an impressive and functional front entrance to the building, designed to manage the flow of people and control of heat in the lobby of the building. In addition to this we further enhanced the automatic access control strategy via swing door automation either side of the revolving door. Internally we supplied and installed ‘wave-activated’, touchless sensor technology automation for the bathroom doors throughout the building, for hygiene control. The project required a combination of ‘hold-open’ and ‘swipe access’ door automation internally which fed into our access strategy for the building and which is designed to allow the client to manage the flow of people and the security of the building effectively.

WDR & RT Taggart also requested bespoke window sills to coordinate with the dark walnut doorsets supplied, which we were able to create and provide, specifically for this project, to enhance the overall aesthetic of the building interior.
