  • Sector Leisure & Sport
  • Location: Cork, Ireland
  • Architect: Scott Tallon Walker
  • Contractor: John Sisk / Malachy Walsh Partners

Project Overview

This refurbishment and rebuilding of Iconic Cork GAA Stadium Pairc UI Chaoimh aimed to provide a state-of-the-art 45,000 capacity stadium with full range of ancillary facilities including Bars, food stalls and a conferencing facility. The Cork County Board offices are also located in the stadium in a dedicated admin section.

KCC were specified for a full Ironmongery and signage solution in our Modus range which provided the level of aesthetics desired combined with the durability required in this type of building. We developed a comprehensive ironmongery schedule to suit the architects choice of steel frames and timber doors. We also worked with the design team to produce a bespoke wayfinding signage solution across the whole stadium. We coordinated the supply of the ironmongery on a phased basis with Sisk and sent part of the delivery to the Joinery company for off site preparation of doors.

The signage package was a supply and install sub contract and we again coordinated with the site team to facilitate the installation of the signage across the site. This project presented a number of challenges . The hardware package had to meet the multiple criteria of looking good , meeting accessibility, fire safety and security standards and expectations and catering for a number of different user groups from Fans to permanent staff to temporary catering staff. This necessitated a bespoke master key arrangement and the use of code locks for Match day and event access to the various kiosks and bars which can be locked down out of event time using the cylinder lock provided. The semi external environment also presented challenges with all the main elements finished in Stainless steel.

The signage package had to provide a simple wayfinding system for people new to the stadium as well as providing quick location references for stewards and emergency services to facilitate accurate reporting and response to any incidents. The ceiling hanging system used is bespoke to this project and involved reinforcing the sign and fixing into concrete structures as well as onto steel and bracing against the high wind loads whilst still allowing for movement in the sign to prevent damage. This solution was engineered on site by KCCs installation team.
