Phased project for new build and refurbishment works
The High Dependency Unit (HDU) is specially staffed and equipped to provide 24 hour care for critically ill patients. This was a phased project over a number of years which involved complete new build and refurbishments of existing wards to bring facilities up to modern standard and provide mental health care to KGH This project involved an extension and refurbishment of existing facilities in Tralee. We were specified by Avanti Architects to provide an ironmongery schedule for specialist anti-ligature hardware. The KCC anti-ligature hardware package specified included twinsets for patient bedrooms and bathrooms, anti ligature handles and locks with dual override to ensure the safety of service users and staff. Patient safety was obviously of utmost importance and therefore there was also a requirement for continuous action anti-ligature hinges, and removable doorstops to allow doors to be opened outward into the corridor by medical staff in the event of an emergency or barricade situation.
