Carraig Centre, Ballincollig

A spatial, hardware and automation solution for a mixed-use community centre

  • Sector Public Building
  • Location: Cork
  • Architect: Reddy Architecture & Urbanism
  • Contractor: Clancy Construction

Project Overview

The Carraig Centre is a beautifully restored communal building in the heart of Ballincollig, Cork used as a church, parish and community centre. The facility offers a multitude of rooms, studios and halls to local groups. Reddy Architecture & Urbanism were the main architects on the project, built into the shell of a former gun powder store. On the original project we worked closely with Clancy Construction and Reddy Architecture to provide a full ironmongery package in a durable, stainless steel finish suitable for daily usage and for all levels of ability. We also provided a door automation solution using GEZE EMD-F low energy swing door operators to automate the main leaf of both doors on the double lobby entrance. This low energy solution allows ease of access to users of all abilities who frequently use the centre.

In more recent times we were asked to provide a solution to facilitate the flexible use of space in the largest hall within the facility. We worked with the centre manager directly to design and supply an acoustic, easy-to-operate movable wall solution that allows the client to split this large room into two smaller spaces.
